An Intimate Look at Ezekiel 16. Feminist scholars and readers alike are often appalled by the violence incurred toward the wanton wife, Israel, for her many misconducts against her beloved loyal husband, GD, in Ezekiel 16. In this session we will examine the problematic husband/wife metaphor with an eye for the sadomasochistic trope used by Ezekiel. Is it a power play? Is it gender-essentialist? Is it an exchange of trust, a discourse of pain and love at the core of Jewish theology? Come and see.
